Maggie Grace is an American actress who was born Margaret Grace Denig in 1983. Her most famous roles include Shannon Rutherford, a character on ABC's Lost series as well as Kim Mills from the Taken trilogy. The couple had separated and she relocated with her mother into Los Angeles. She landed her debut role, as Rachel's Room's title character, in 2001 despite struggling with finances. In 2002 she was nominated for an Young Artist Award with her part as the 15-year-old murdered Martha Moxley. Grace played Shannon Rutherford on the Lost TV show in 2004. The show featured her as the principal role for two seasons, and was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Award. Grace has worked together with Tom Welling on The Fog in the year 2005, was looking to go into film. The actress has also appeared as Kim Mills in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club both in 2007 as well as in Taken opposite Liam Neeson in 2008 as Kim Mills. She reprised her role as Kim Mills in Taken 2 (2012) and Taken 3 (2014).She played the leading role in Alice in Malice in Wonderland a modern take on Lewis Carroll's novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace reprised Shannon's role as Shannon in Lost for two additional episodes. This included the final episode of the series. The year was 2013, and she appeared in the sixth episode of Californication. She plays Faith as a groupie, and also a muse to the stars, who catches the eye of Hank Moody played by David Duchovny. She's the daughter of Stephen Gyllenhaal (director) and Naomi Achs (producer), she is a bit more senior that Jake Gyllenhaal. Her first roles were in films starring her father as an adolescent. Together with her brother she appeared on the screen in Donnie Darko (2000). Later, she was as a character in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (both 2002) and Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in both the romantic comedy Sherrybaby (2005) and in the romantic comedy Secretary (2002). The two films were critically acclaimed. Following several commercially-successful films, like World Trade Center in 2006 she gained greater recognition for her role as Rachel Dawes (the superhero) in The Dark Knight (2007). In recognition of her role as the single mother in Crazy Heart (2009) she got a nomination in the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. In the following years she appeared in comedy and dramas: Nanny McPhee & the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011 and Won't Back Down 2012. Her other roles includes Secret Service agents in White House Down (2013, action thriller), musicians in Frank (2014 and drama The Kindergarten Teacher 2018) in addition to The Kindergarten teacher. Gyllenhaal wrote and directed her first feature film, The Lost Daughter in 2021. The drama about psychological issues won the Best Screenplay Award from the Venice International Film Festival. It was also nominated to be awarded the Academy Award of Best Adapted Screenplay.
